Introducing Andrea Ricci's JÉA
Andrea Ricci is a Montreal-based creator and tastemaker best known for her minimalist style and distinct taste and look. You’ve seen her and her content across Instagram, TikTok and certainly Pinterest. As she sets out to launch her new venture — JÉA (@atelierjea) — I had the pleasure of speaking with her on the brand, her inspirations and personal style. -
Tell me about how JÉA came to be.
JÉA came to be when I was looking for a creative outlet. I have been working in the luxury fashion industry for over ten years and have accumulated so much knowledge; from being an intern steaming on set to becoming head of marketing. I wanted to put all that knowledge into practice for my own project. After working in this industry for so many years, I knew I didn’t want to follow the fashion calendar. I don’t believe that it supports creativity and I wanted to put out things through thought and intention instead of following deadlines. If a single product takes a year to perfect, so be it!
Who is the woman you’re designing for?
I’m designing for those who enjoy beauty! They believe in quality over quantity, they are thoughtful about what they bring into their home.
Tell me about your personal style and what inspires your design process.
My style is a combination of femininity and masculinity. It’s a balance between looking like I haven’t tried at all while looking put together. I don’t wear many colours, so I aim to add interest with texture.
What can we expect to see from JÉA in coming seasons?
I released my first home piece which was a lamp! I wasn’t sure how it would be received since it was my first time dabbling in the interior world. I was shocked how quickly it sold out. I can’t wait to dive into that universe again for the next capsule.
What is your favorite piece from the current collection? Do any pieces have a special story?
I’m working on my favourite piece so far, it’s a twist on a men’s cummerbund that can be layered over dresses or something as casual as a pair of jeans. I’m currently photographing it and I’m feeling so inspired!
What’s in your cart this Fall/Winter season?
Elsa Peretti Sterling Cuff | Cartier Baignoire 1920 Watch | Ayllon Ring | Egyptian Pill Box | The Row Boots
What is your current closet workhorse?
I’ve been wearing a lot of kimonos as dresses, they’re incredibly comfortable and they are very elegant. I also can’t stop wearing the Alaïa Infradito Heeled Sandals with the most casual look as a contrast.
What’s a brand you’re loving right now that everyone might not know about yet?
I love Maison Magdelena, I own one of her scarves and the quality is stunning. It’s also such a practical piece, I’ve worn it as a belt and it adds such amazing texture to an outfit.
Go-to place for inspiration?
My family and friends are the main inspiration. I also love to gather images on Pinterest and I watch a lot of videos on Youtube about fabulous socialites from the past.
Favorite hidden gem?
I love the private spaces of Le 9e in Montreal, it’s where I celebrated my birthday. It’s an art deco dream!
